SCHOOL CRISIS

on april 1, 2007, the term of the incumbent rector-president of san beda college will end.  for the past weeks, the committee on nomination has been very busy finalizing the names of the would-be rector-president.

my boss, as one of the deans here, is obviously very much affected.  he wants fr. anscar to be re-elected.  he wishes for it.  he even prays for it.  but unfotunately (and it is really very unfortunate), when the final list of the nominees was disseminated, fr. anscar’s name wasn’t included.  there were 8-9 names.  and only one is a doctorate degree holder.

i remember boss saying that an educational institution offering doctoral degree programs must have a rector or president that has a doctoral degree.  i agree.  i believe that it should be the number one classification before becoming a school president.  however, according to ate jackie (secretary to the rector-president), there is an exception.  this rule can be disregarded if the school is run by a community, i.e., by a religious congregation.

for a second i thought "oh!  i see!"  and then UST dawned on me.  my alma mater (though i am not that proud of it) is also run by a community.  but never in its history that it had a rector without any doctoral degree of some sort.

i think that a school leader has something to do with the school’s performance.

and somehow i understand why san beda is not considered one of the priorities when looking for a school in college.

right now, our school is in crisis.  somehow.  i guess.  i can almost imagine what will happen in the future once a new rector-president is elected.

God save us all!
